The LVHS Dance team seeks to represent the school, the department, and each other through dance. We do community service, in and out of school performances, and hope to compete throughout the district and state. Moving forward we want to offer scholarships, internships, mentorship with various partners in the community to active dance students.

TEAM REHEARSAL AND CLASSES

ELEMENTS

This one-year course is designed to develop the students' performance through extensive exploration of the fundamentals of dance. The elements of space, force, time, and locomotor and non-locomotor movements will be incorporated into the composition and choreographic process. This course will develop and extend the artistic, affective, cognitive, and psychomotor potentials of the advanced students. Instructional practices incorporate integration of diversity awareness including appreciation of all cultures and their important contributions to society. The appropriate use of technology is an integral part of this course. This course fulfills either one of the elective credits or the Arts/Humanities/CTE credit required for high school graduation and may be repeated

STANDARDS AND OBJECTIVES

Course Goals:

 

  1. To examine an in-depth experience of the fundamentals of dance and competency of movement fundamentals. [DA:A5. HSII]

 

  1. To utilize the fundamentals of dance to create compositions through the choreographic process. [DA:A2. HSIII]

 

  1. To provide opportunities to apply the skills necessary to cooperatively create dance compositions through the choreographic process. [DA:A2. HSIII]

 

  1. To further the study of dance through performance opportunities. [DA:A5. HSIII]

 

  1. To promote physical and emotional well-being through dance. [DA:A5. HSI]

 

  1. To compose and evaluate movement in the process of dance composition. [DA:A4. HSIII]
