Advanced Techniques

 

LEVEL 3 AT LAS VEGAS HIGH SCHOOL

This one-year course is designed for high school students who have successfully completed an intermediate dance course and want to explore more advanced performance techniques. Major topics include the skills required for performance and creation in ballet, jazz, modern, tap, and theatrical dance forms. Instructional practices incorporate integration of diversity awareness including appreciation of all cultures and their important contributions to society. The appropriate use of technology is an integral part of this course. This course fulfills either the one Arts/Humanities/CTE credit, or one physical education credit required for graduation and may be repeated

Course Goals:

  1. To examine and refine the fundamentals and techniques of a variety of dance forms.

  2. To analyze artistic intent and personal voice in original composition. [DA.A1, 10. III]

  3. To compose original choreography utilizing advanced principles, processes, and structures. [PE:1.12.3, DA:A3. III]

  4. To analyze and evaluate dance composition across a variety of genres or cultural movement practices. [PE:2.12.1, DA:A7, 8. III]

  5. To refine the study of dance through collaboration, leadership skills and performance.

  6. To gain a broader understanding of the contributions of various cultures in the area of dance. [DA.A11. III]
